Counting Down: 12

Sunday noon finds the whole family cum one future in-law (?!?) at Changi Airport Terminal 3. Nothing to celebrate about as Yy will be traveling to Germany alone for the next 12 days =( We make a pact to update our blog more frequently so as to keep 'more' in touch...

Since German is having winter now, Yy has alot of luggage with her, consisted mostly of winter wear...

Mandai Orchid Garden

I remember my friends described me as a park lover in my graduation booklet. I don't really know why, or how or even when... I started to enjoy going to parks and natural reserves, to feel that I'm part of the nature; I started to love the feeling of sunlight burning on my skin; I started to see almost everything with four legs as cute (hey, birds only got two legs and mushrooms have none, and I think that they are cute too); I started to want to capture everything I see and love...

Sadly, not every story have a happy ending, and this is just the case for the Mandai Orchid Garden...

To tell you the truth, I only know about this place from Yy early this year when we took up the hobby of birding. It is quite well known among natural lovers for its diversities of insects and birds. Yet, what brought our attention to this place is the announcement of its closure and relocation to make way for Singapore Night Safari... I understand that Singapore is a small island and that there is a limitation to how much we can reclaim our land. I also understand that many things have to make way for developments and maybe tourist attractions...

Scratch that, maybe I don't truly understand that... I know that the Orchid Garden is not really being close off and I know that it is going to be relocated and be preserved... In fact, the new location might even attracted more wildlife to this garden. But, what about the wildlife that are relaying on its presence now?

The same issue happened to Chek Jawa a few years back. Thought the plan to reclaim this land was defer for ten years, but what fate awaits Chek Jawa in 2012? Thinking of this, I feel somewhat reluctant to welcome the coming of the year 2011... We can be proud of the highest man-made waterfall in Jurong Bird Park; We can be proud of the world's largest fountain in Suntec or the world's biggest observation wheel- the Singapore Flyer, the advancements, the clean and green environment... We can and should also be proud of the rich diversity that we have here...

I guess I'm really not someone who will be a good government, as I'm not willing to make this kind of sacrifice for developments... Haiz, enough of me complaining, below are some photographs that I have taken during my visit on 26th Dec- My last and only glance on Mandai Orchid Garden...

The place has a rustic feel as mentioned by Yy. The only problem is there are too many mosquitoes...

I'm not really good with flowers, I can only say that the first is a pink hibiscus and the second torch ginger, and of course 4th, 5th and 6th are orchid.

My Honours Project 05

There's nothing else to say except that I've finished my Honours project...

...

?!?

Okay, I guess I can only say that time flies?? Haha, it had being a few weeks since I last updated on this blog about my honours project and with a flash, I have finish it!! Ya, how I wish...

Actually, I have only finish the data collection of my project and in my opinion, typing the report is even a more challenging task... Hmm... hopefully I will start soon!!

My original plan is to finish collection of data from 100 samples during the vacation. However, as my professor managed to get Agri-food & Veterinary Authority (AVA) of Singapore to agree on helping me with the serotyping tests, there is a change of plan... Be it being good or bad, this brought forward the deadline I have to finish my data collection to 10 December (so that I will have enough time to go to AVA for further testing before new year).

Believe me, it's not that easy to achieve deadline as it meant that I have to go back to laboratory the very next day after my examination and also increase my sampling size for each week. Anyway, I guess I can more or less say that everything's goes well for my progress since I managed to abide to the change in schedule =)

Yet, somehow, I'm not all too happy about it... Sometimes, I just can't help but feel that the other students sharing the same laboratory are being selfish: using up supplies and materials, occupying the whole laboratory... And at other times, I feel angry at myself that I have the thoughts of relaying on someone to help me with my work. I really hope that I can be more independent!!

Updates

Tada~~

Yes, Lele is back on blogger!! I actually finished my final examination rather early this time since I only have one paper (on the 22nd of November). The reason that why I took so long to update my blog is that... I'm lazy... =x

Sadly, there's no holiday for me this time round... This is so as I have to go back to laboratory the next day after the paper T.T

A typically day for me nowadays is as such:

Wake up at around 08:00 and spend the day at laboratory --> lunch with my sister at Arts --> being slave of the computer (internet internet@~@) --> dinner with sister while watching Tv --> more surfing of the internet --> read some novel before sleeping at ~ 01:00 or 02:00

Hmm... sometimes I might fall asleep at as early as 21:00... I guess I'm not as able to burn night oil as I used to be=(

As for hobby, I'm still enjoying birding as much as in the past. In fact, I tend to get withdrawal symptom such as dreaming about birds if I didn't get the chance to do so for more than one week. Hehe, I think that it's good to have something that one really enjoys doing =) I have also being trying to get back to my another hobby (reading) these few weeks so that I can, hopefully..., 'detach' myself from excessive use of internet

Yup, I guess that should be all for today, from today onwards, I will slowly get back to updating this blog (more frequently).
